After a 800d coat has been applied. allow it to dry and harden then apply another coat and in this way allow several layers of egg white to be built up In this way you will be able to restore the leather to practically it; original state. and when the last application is thoroughly set and dried rub brown shoe polish into the leather and finish with a soft sloth.

Without a drop of sugar! The lunchboxes may have suffered for want o! a cookie during the last few months of school last spring. But this Fall, they can start right out again complete with tempting delicacies!

For here are three delicious cookies that pack well in lunch- boxes-and there isn't a grain of sugar used in any of them!

Molasses, honey, and corn syrup give them enough sweet goodness to make them year-round favor- ites — and enough zip and spice to make them the ideal back-to- school cookies!

Ginger Wafers

1 cups bran

1 cup light molasses

3-4 cup melted shortening

2 I-ii cups sifted flour

1-2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons soda

1-2 teaspoon allspice

1 l-2 teaspoons ginger.

Soak bran in molasses 10 min- utes; add shortening. Sift flour, soda and spices together; stir into molasses mixture; mix well. Knead and shape into rolls about 2 in- ches in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper, covering ends so that do h will not dry out. Chill in refr gerator until firm. Cut in thin slices and bake on ungreased cookie sheet in moderate oven 350°FJ B to l0 minutes.

Yield: 5 dozen wafers (2 1-2 inches 1n diameter).

Honey Date Bar:

2 eggs

3-4 cup honey

l-l! cup bran

1-2 cup sifted flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1-4 teaspoon salt

2 cups chopped dates

l-2 cup chopped nutmests

Beat eggs well; add honey and bran. Sift flour with baking pow- der and salt: add dates and nu:- meats. Add to first mixture. beating well. Spread batter 1-2 inch thick in greased shallow pan, and bake in moderate oven (375° 1".) about 30 minutes. Cut into bars while warm and dust with powdered sugar. if desired; or serve as a pudding with whipped cream.

Yield: 16 bars 1 l-i x I 3-4 1n- ches (ii x 8-inch pan).

Raisin Nut Bars (Sugar Saving)
