SOUTHPORT FERRY.
Mr. Epirorn,—As our wise men will soon be met together I would call their attention to the management of the South- port ferry. It ia claimed that this ferrv is
run at aloas. Now his shonid not be so. Where there ie euch an immense
traffic, it shonld pay expenees if properly mauaged. To my- mind the greatet cause for the deficit is to be attributed to the system of season tickets. These should be abolished, and let every person who wishes to @rose pay for it every time. But as it stands now, the fare is altogether too high. Inetead of 14 cents as at present for areturn trip, make it 10 cents return for a horse and wagon, cart, or truck, and driver, and two ceats each way for foot
passengers. Some contesd thata maa that goes to town often, should not pay as much a«one who only goes occasionally. Why should henot? He has the advan tage of living neartown, and takes his products to'market avd makes bis money n this way; as in the case of the butcherl, market gardener and truck farmer; and vhy should be not pay for the accomme- dation? There are people who get season ticketa who go to town when they haven’t @oy businessto take then there, and loaf around all day when they would be better ot home doing something useful about the farm or attending to their business, sim- ply because they have next thing toa free ticket and they want to take all they can out of it; fact. There is another matter that causes a great deal of talk and hard feeling, and shou!d be remedied. A load of bay, @ cart of potatoes or a load of bricks pays 14c. But for a light waggon and two persons in it they have to pay the l4c and buy a foot passengers ticket be= sides, then getin their buggy and go across. This stould be changed tu one person or two in @ waggon, one fare.
I feel asevred if tbe Government would do away with season tickets, lower the fares, and let every man pay for his ac- commodation, there would be a_ better showing at the end of the year. I may say that Il cross the ferry abontas often as anyone, and often felt guilty, getting so many free trips.—-so that I know whereof I speak. And also let the Government see to it, that we have two boats on in the fall on market daye.

OBITUARY.
- On Saturday, the 18th ull., death claimed as its own, Lucy, relict of the late Alexander McIntyre, of Mount Stewart, in the 67 h yearof her age. With less than ao hour’s warning, the Creator has seep it meet to Pummon from our midst this per~ son in whom was centred every virtue and noble quality which is characteristic of the ideal woman. Being thoughtful of the poor and needy, aud kind and sociable with all classes and ereede, she lived and died with leaving an enemy, but all feeling that they had Jost a kind and = sine-re friend. Though the roada were almost impassable, an exceptionally large number foliowel her remains to St. Andrew's Uburch, and after the Requiem Maes, joined in procession to the cemetery, where, mid feelings of sorrow, she was laid in her last resiing place. Be it enacted by the City Council of the City of Charlottetown as follows:
