UPEI has been going through a serious facelift for the last while, and the list of improvements is stagger- ing. To name a few: the K.C. Irving Chemistry building, the Nutriscienc- es and Health building, the new sports complex, Atlantic Veterinary Clinic renovations, the new utility shed and the current major proj- ect, the new $11 million Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship/ School of Business Administration.

The new facility is a combination of 22,725 square feet of soon-to-be renovated Marion Hall and 27,670 square feet of new construction.

The usage of that space is an ambitious project on the behalf of the-university administration. The Centre for Enterprise and Entre- preneurship isn’t simply a name that rolls off the tongue — it genuinely reflects what will take place inside those walls.

UPET’s Business Co-op Educa- tion program, International Business, Bio-Business, SEED, the Tourism Research Centre and the PEI Bio Al- liance are all setting up shop in new offices in the new building, a setup which the university hopes will foster connections between the academic and business world, specifically with the biotechnology field.

computer labs, research areas, com- mon areas (like Kelley building’s lounge area but on steroids), confer- ence and meeting rooms will con- tribute to that atmosphere and the overall functionality.

The non-office facilities will be focused around Market Street, which runs the length of the new construc- tion and connects it to Marion Hall — the office centre — and the new common area.

The 2 level, 3,900 square foot common atea — dubbed Market Square — and the conference rooms are all outfitted with business tech- nology; discussion with those in- volved in the project made it almost seem like even the bathrooms were Powerpoint Presentation-ready.

The Campus Development Plan has winter 2008 listed as the esti- mated completion date, but Business students may not spend too much time in the new building until Sep- tember 2008.

Relocations of less scale than the entire School of Business, such as the Co-op Education and Life Long Learning offices, may take up resi- dence in the new building over next Christmas break.

The void opened in the Kel- ley Building will be filled largely by administration services as Business offices make the shift.
