The Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca) is listed as IR (irregular-unpredict- able) to R (rare, 1—5 birds per season) in the Field Check List of Birds of P.E.I. So it was a special event when Teresa Hughes spotted a male

at Webster's Corner on Nov. 4. It is a white owl, with dusky flecks, and quite large (20-27"). The day—flying snowy has a round head and yellow eyes and perches on posts and haystacks. Its diet in the Arctic consists of lemmings and other rodents, and to some extent on birds and fishes.
