Notes from Alberry Plains

The farmers of this vicinity have finished shipping and are now preparing for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Although Charlottetown has been samit- ten with a terrible epidemic, yet by a kind Providence and the energy of a good Board of Health, no infection has been allowed into this district ; and it is to be hoped that this neig iborhood wilt be fortunate enough to escape the dreaded pestilence, which has been causing so much sorrow and expense in the city.

The school, which has been closed during the last fortnight, has re-opened to-day. By the energetic exertions of our efficient teacher, Mr. J. B. Praught, it will only be @ comparatively short time before the scholars will make up for the instruction they would have acquired, had they been attending, and the school were not closed.

Notwithstanding the many complaints respecting the low prices for produce, the inhabitants of this locality are cheerful and happy under the N. P. Mr. Thomas P. Richards, one of onr most prosperous farmers, has enlivened the hearts of many of his young friends by giving a grand fes- tive!, at his own expense, A committee was formed to prevent any parties, who could not produce certificates of vaccina- tion, from gaining admittance. Carpets were taken from the floor for those who wished to tip the heel and toe, at the sweet sounds of the old violin. The night thus passed cheerfully, and at 3 o'clock a. m., after singing ‘‘God Save the Queen,” the happy company departed to their respective homes.
