James Stevenson, of the Washington Geological Survey, has reported the discovery of several more ruined caves and cliff cities. The most remarkable one isa village of sixty-five under- grouod dwellings near the summit of a foot bill in the San Juan re- Arizona. The dwellings

Considerable debris was found in these ancient dwellings, an examination of which led to the discovery of many curios illustrating some of the sociai and domestic customs of the extinet race. Stone mauls and axes, the imple- ments used in excavating the dwellings; pottery bearing a great variety of or- namentation; bone awls and needles of delicate workmanship; the metate, or family-grindiog stone, for grain, its well-worn surtace indicating long use ;

Alive in Her Coffin.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES ENDED AND THE UNDERTAKER ABOUT TO CLOSE THE LID.

Mrs. Lucinda Neeley of Jeffersonville, Ind., a member of the Order of Knights and Ladies of Honor, and prominent in religious, charitable, and social cireles, was taken very suddenly ill on Thurs- day night, and ia twe hours was _ pro- nounced dead. Heart diseuse, hastened by acute asthma, was assigned as the cause, Jn account ef the suddenness of herdeath the funeral was postponed until Monday morning. A large num- ber of persons, attracted by the promin- ence of Mrs. Neeley, and in part by the fact that she was to be buried with the honors of the society of which she was amember, were present. After the fuueral sermon the knights and ladies went through their recital for the dead. Then the sorrowing friends took their last look and the undertaker was about to replace the lid on the coffin, when a giance at the eorpse caused him to draw back with an exclamation. The friends were summoned, and, after a hasty con- sulation around the coffin, the preacher said: “My friends, the funeral of Mrs. Neeley will proceed no further, as it is thought she is still alive. The audience is dismissed .

The undertaker says that-as he was about to close the lidof the coffin he noticed a flush on the cheeks of the corpse, and saw a mevement of the body as a person in a desperate struggle tor life. The burial has been seetpeen in- defiuitely, and every effort will be made to bring Mrs, Neely out of her supposed trance.

At Jeffersonville, Ind., preparations were inade to bury Mrs. Lucinda Neely, on Monday, when appearances of life were discovered, and the body was removed from the casket and at last accounts efforts were being made to bring her out of the supposed trace.

The wearing of mackintoshes is said to be a fruitful cause of colds. The mac- kintosh prevents exterior wittiog, but the clothing uader it becomes saturated with moisture from the tody, which evaporates when the garment is remov- ed. The Lancet says that when onee the mackintosh has been put on it should not be removed until the wearer is in a position to change his clothing.
