LONDON, (Reuters)-Prlme' Min- ister Churchill will make an im- portant Parliament statement next week on the United States hy- drogen bomb tests, which have aroused widespread fears since President Eisenhower. in effect, stlmitted that the March 1 blast at Bikini in the Pacific had got out of control.

Churchill will probably tell the Commons he cannot ask the United states to abandon her experiments and leave Russia free to forge ahend in the weapons race.

Saurel Breaks PropelloLShafl

HALIFAX, (CF) The ice- breaker Saurel turned back Fri- day when her starboard propcllor shaft snapped after she had punched through heavy ice to within four miles of the ice-lock- ed sealing vessel Arctic Prowler in the Strait of Belle Isle.

Saurel, which bumped through; 19 miles of heavy, rafting ice, is attempting to return on her other propellor to Halifax for repairs. The icebreakcr d'1herville is en route to assist her and the Prow- it-r.

The Halifax-ope-ruled sealer. trapped for more than a week, is in no immediate danger. Her 75 crew members are safe, the ice has caused no damage and she is ivell-provisioned. The Strait of Eelle Isle separates Newfound- land from Labrador.

OTTAWA. (CF)-Labor Minister Gregg announced Friday a confer- ence will be held here Tuesday on the unemployment problem in Can- ada's farm implement industry.

He told the Commons the meet- ing will be attended by representat- ives of labor, management. farm organizations and the federal gov- cmment.

John Dlefenbaker (PC-Prince Albert) asked if similar confer- ences would be held in connection with other industries affected by unemployment.

Mr. Gregg said this will be de- termlned after next week": meet- ing. which will be an experiment.

OFITAWA, (CF) - There were more marriages and births in Can- ada last February than in Febru- ary. 1953, but fewer deaths. .

The bureau of stntistics reported' Friday that 33,000 births were reg- istered in Canada in February, 17.8 per cent more than last year. Reg- istrations in the first two months of the year totalled 05,000, on in- crease of 7.5 per cent over the corresponding period last year.

Marriage registrations in Febru- ary rose seven per cent to 0,600 from 6,300 a year ago.

OTTAWA, (GP) - With railway business slipping, the CNR Friday trimmed its operating budget.

The government-owned system's 1954 revenue - spending forecast, tabled in the Commons, indicated cuts in both operating revenues and expenditures - the line's first budget reductions since the war.

However, capital expehditures will remain substantial at 3209.- l68,000 as the company proceeds with a huge modernization pro- gram of its rolling stock and other equipment.

The CNR predicted a nominal surplus of s500,000 this year. com- pared with 3244.000 in 1953. It es- timated gross revenues at 3688,- 500.000, against s696,600.000 in 1953.

Its proposed operating expenses were sliced to s843.'l00,000 from s6'f6.600,000 and s659,00D,000. re- spectively the estimated and actual amounts for 1963. The 1953 revenue- expense figures were all time records for the company.

Wages May Climb

The 1054 spending estimates are largely liypothetical, since they do not make provision for additional payroll costs that could result from current contract demands of non- operating employees. The company has estimated the cost of these demands at upwards of 516,000,000 a year. They now are being dealt with by a federal conciliation board.

Meanwhile, the Commons Friday received the annual budgets of two other public transportation com- panics - Trans-Canada Air Lines and Canadian National (West In- dies) steamships.
