Mr. Waetan, from a committee se whom was referred the Petition of certain Inhabitants of Georgetown and vioinity, praying aid towards erecting a Light Honse at the Port of Three Rivers, aad whe were also instructed to report upon the subject of Light Houses to be evected where most useful,on any part or parts of this Island, and to afford such ether information relating thereto ag the eommitiee might deem necessary, pre-

sented the following Report:

Your committee are of opinion, that as sae oman derived from Light Duty, at tee Port of Three Rivers, would be sufii- eieat (o maintain a Light at that place, sa addition to asmall annual tax that might be imposed upon the owners or ssasters of American Vessels prosecuting the Fisheries on the Coasts of this Island, aud regulurly seeking shelter within the Werbour of Three Rivers,—ea sum suffi- @ient ie erect a Light Louse at the most suitable point near the entrance of that Pert, and provide it with the necessary Lampe, should be set apart during the meat session of the Legislature. Your committee think that such sum of money eh ould not exceed Two hundred Pounds;

The Additions! Land Asseaement Bill, wag,on motion by Mr. Fraser, again committed to a committee of the whole House, for the purpose of adding another clause; the object of which the hon. member thus explained: —The land As- sesement under the operation of the Bill, should it begome Jaw, would be more dif- ficylt tc collect, than that under the old or existing Land Assessment Act; be- cause, according to the provisions of the Bill, the new Assessment was notto be imposed on any quantity of Land less than 500 acres; whilst, under the other, which wag general in its operation, the tax was imposed upon the whole of every Township. ‘To evade the operation of the old Act, was therefore scarcely pos- sible; but it would 64 otherwise with the operation of that contemplated by the Bill; and be {abe honoradle member) had therefore -in accordance with a pint thrown out by some honorable meinbder (he knew not exactly whom) the other evening, had a clause prepared, with a view to its being added to the Bill, by which every proprietor would be required to pay in his whole Land Assessment for all lands held by him, lable thereto, either at the Office of the Land Assess- ment Receiver or Deputy of the Treasur- er necrest, toany rateable qnantity of land hela Sy him, or at the office of the Treasurer in Charlottetown; as, in con- sequence of the fiecessary proceedings under such an enacting clase, it would be more easy to sum up the various lots or quantities of land seperately held by one individual, and the possibility of evading the tax, by means of false returns, would be rendered much more difficuit.

Mr. Monreomeny’s Biil for the en- couragement of the Cod and Aliackere] Fisheries was read a third time, passed, and sent tp to the Legislative Council by Mr. Montgomery.

The Bill to provide for the removing of the Post Office of Charlottetos n, into the Gld Court House, &c., was on motion by the Hen. Air. Coles, recommitted to a committee of the whole House, for the purpese of adding aro/her clause to the Bil!,the object of which, as previgusly ex- plained by the hon. member, was to pro- vide that the Inhabitants of Charlottetown should be at liberty to make an addition to the Old Court House, on the North Side, by extending out the Building un- der one continuous roof, to the distance of about 50 feet on the vacant ground on that side, for the purpose of providing s convenient end gafe place of keepiag for sone of the Fire Kngines and the eppara- tus belonging tothem. ‘The former go-

refused to allow the Inhabitants of the Town to make any such addition; bat their successors, in consideration of the great necessity for such an accommoda- tion, persuaded that the locality was one of the most suitable, and being of opinion that the addition might be made without spoiling the appearance of the original building or obstructing the view, bad agreed, in order to avoid any disputes on the subject with the inhabitants, to allow them to make, as he had stated, such an addition for such a purpose: and the clause which he intended to propose should be added to the Bill was to give to the Inhabitants of Charlottetown the power legally to avail themselves of the p:ivileze which the Goverminent p oposed io concede to them. The clavse having been submitted, was agreed to by the comniitter, without any opposition ; and the Liouse beinz resumed, the amendment was reported agreed ta, and ordered to be engrossed.

The House of Assemb!y having under their consideration th@Crowa Land and Revenues surrendered to the Govern- ment of this Island, by the Act passed during the present Session, intituled ‘*An Act to commute the Crown Reve- nues of Prince Edward Island. and pro- vide for the Civil List thereof,” pray that Your [’xcellency will cause orders. to be given that the front Town Lots in Prince- town be surveyed and properly laid off: And, further, that Your Excellency will be pleased to direct, that a small propor- tion of those Lots be disposed of at Publie sale, and that the other severa! Town and Pasture Lots in the several Towns and Royalties, and likewise the {ands situated in Lots Fifteen and Fifiy- five be disposed of at the same rate and upon the same conditions, as has been heretofore done when the said several Lands were vested in the Imperial Go- vernment.
