The result of this election is a great surprise to all parties. The population of Digby County, when the census of 1370-1 was taken, was 17,037. Of these, 7,241 were Catholics, ani 9,795 were Protestants. Of the Protes- tants, 5,774 were Baptists, 1,446 Methodists, and 1,727 members of the Church of England. Of the Catholics, 6,490 are French and 1,492 Irish. Asfaras the accounts received go, a majority of the people of all nationalities and creeds appear to have voted for Mr. Wade. In the County there are fourteen divisions accord- ing to the census. In four of these the popa-
