Papers Display Mild Comeback At Montreal

MONTREAL, Jan. 2B — (CP)- Papers displayed a mild comeback in late trading on the stock ex change and curb market today, but losses continued to predominate in the remainder of the list. Price changes were mainly fractional. Trading was moderate and se- lected issues accounted for the bulk of the turnover. Mines were irregularly lower in light trading. , Closing averages indicated banks off .22 at 27.69; utilities unchanged at 73.8; industrisls off .3 at 118.4: papers up 1.46 at 324.22; golds off .06 st 71.53. Approximate indul- trisl sales were 55,200 shares, 2,- 200 fewer than yesterday's total. Mining sales totalled 118,600 shares.

Fraser advanced 1-2 at 47 and Bathurst added 3-8 at 19 in pap- ers. On c. turnover of 2,887 shares, Consolidated Paper went forward 8-8 at 17. Price eased 1-2 st 52 i-Lifnternationsl Paper and M. andO were of! 1-4 each at 62 1~2 and 21 3-4, respectively. B. C

TORONTO, Jun. 22 - Golds, base metals and western oils all moved dmvnward on the Toronto Stock exchange today but issues were firmer toward the close.

The closing index showed golds down .06 a-t 93.43, base metals .58 at 86.46 and western oils .78 at 32.39.

Foothills advanced five cents at $3.00 as the only gain in the west- ern oils. Heavier losers were Ariglo-Caltadian, Cllonont, Lcduc West, Okaitu, Pacific Petroleum, Roxana.

Kerr Addison, sigma and Teck Hughes were down moderately among the senior golds while eas- ier juniors were Berens, Chester- ville, Coohenour, East. Amphi. God's lake, Hosco, Kenville, Kirk- land Lake, Macassa, Madsen. Mal- artic,.-Negus, O'Brien, Powell. Sul- livan and 'I‘aku. There were few gains.
