A recent editorial shows a very good understanding of the need for social and economic research in agriculture. , '

At the present time the econ- omists employed by the Federal Department of Agriculture are a section under the marketing di- vision. No one of course questions the need of the marketing service in this respect. However, the ar- rangement is L.10h that the first demand on the time of the econ- omists will be the provision of marketing information. Progress on general research if undertaken at all must compete for time with routine matters, There is, for this reason and others, a grow- ing feeling that the economic-peo- ple should be a separate division
