The French aud Spanish papers for some time back have been sparing no efforts to magniiy the difficulties which have arisen between France and Spain. So telegraphs the Paris correspondent of the London Times. Certainly there has been, on account of recent events in Africa, ao interchange of diplomatic noves, au interchange which still cou- tinues, aud is no doubt not yet about to finish. This situation, however, might have been avoided if, in reply to Duke Ferrsaud Nunez’s courteous, semi-official observatious, a desire had at once been manifested to give effective assistauce to the unfortunate victims of Bou Amena, and the Spanish Government had thus

been spared the necessity of taking official steps. THREE NOTES HAVE BEEN EXCHANGED,

but it is certato that the language of the two Governments has evinced an equal desire for conciliation, though it is but just to say that the reach Government bas not acted on this occasion with either the decision or sincerity worthy of the

INDIANS ON THE —VARIOUS OUTRAGES A party of about fifty to seventy-five Indians crossed the Atlantic & Pacitic railroxd, near Bacon Springs, last Wed- nesday afternoon, ‘This same _ party killed seven persons about ten miles from El Rito, a point on the Atlantic and Pacitic, fifty miles south of Albuquérque, Wednesday night, and another party of a dozen Indians surrounded and fired iato &® gang of section men six miles south of Lincoln, on the El Passo branch ef the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe road. The section men made their escape un- hart. The Atlantic & Pacific. railway sent a special train to the front Wednes- day night, with fitty well-armed men, and another train with about seventy-five well armed men left Alberque at four o'clock Thursday morning for the scene of action. ‘Telegrams from private par- ties are being speedily sent to Las Vecas, orderiug fire-arms and ammunition Later reports say that the Apaches are in full force fifieen miles south of Acona, a station on the Atlantic & Pacific rail- way. Twenty thousand people were on the grounds at Rochester, on the 11th inst., to see Maud 8. ‘ower her record. Tho day was perfect, and not the slighest breeze was blowing. At 3.35 o'clock the mare jogged past the stand, going beyond the three- quarter pole, turned aud trotted the turn. She increased her spred near the judges’ stand, Blair, her driver, nodded, and the word was given. The mare almost flew and the runpving horse accompanying her could not keep pace with her.- The first quarter was reached, Time 32}. ‘ Will she beat her record!’ is the whispered inquiry. She reached the half-mile turn in 1.05}. She mmereased her pace and passed the three-quarter pole in L374. Tf she does not break she will beat 2.103. There was no sign of abreak. Down the stretch she caine in splendid form and passed under the wire in 2.10}. The official time was hung out by the judges, and the applause of 20,090 people greeted it.
