A remarkable feature of the campaign is the accuracy of the enemy’s fire. Lieut. Crawtord was killed wt a range of over 1,600 yards.

Tramps boarded the cab, pulled out the trottle and the train ran away. She collided with a west- bound freight with the runaway going at terrific speed. Seven freight cars and two engines were wrecked, one man killed aad two injured. Three of the tramps were arrested.

Gentlemen Drivers’ Race.

The Free.for All-Cpacing) class not hav ing filled, the directors of the Driving Park have decided to havea race for Gen- tlemen’s Driving Horses on Thursday, Z3rd inst.

Each horse must be driven ina four wheeled vehicle, and must have been owned by his present owner on or before the 4th Sept., 1897.

No professional driver will be aliewed to drive inthis race whether he is owner er not.

No horse with a record allowed to com- pete.

Entries close eyening before race.

Entrance fee, 5 per cent. of purse, pay- able on entering, and 5 per cent: addition- al to winners.

Entries will be received at the Secre- tary’s office on the grounds.
