1. That the Honourable Aubin E. Arsenault, Arthur A. Alley, and Gil- bert Gaudet, of Charlottetown, in this Province shall be and they are hereby appointed trustee oi the last , will and testament of Dame Louisa Wood, in the place and stead oi the Chief Justice for the time being, the Attorney General for the time being. Reverend Charles Lloyd and Edward Jarvis Hodgson, the trustees in said will named.

Section 2 and 3 deal with the vesting oi the funds, estate in the persons aforesaid and the lawful manner in which the funds may be invested. Section 4 prescribes the method of appointing new trustees.

The Premier explained that an Act was passed in.l924 regulating the assignment of book debts. It is to make the law uniform all over Can- ada. as recommended by the Canad- ian Bar Society that this bill is now introduced.

Hon. Mr. Stewart called attention to a section oi the bill which was improperly framed. These sections were allowed to stand. The Com- mittee reported progress and asked leave to sit again.

House adjourned until Tuesday at 2 p. m.

The Premier will attend the cun- ference at Ottawa on April '1, be- tween the Federal and Provincial Governments to deal with Legisla- tion arising out of the proposed changes to the Statute of Westmin- stcr.

ilon. Mr. Stewart: "Call them what you like. I know there are many people who are doing business in the Association and whose money is in the hands of this concern."

Mr. Allen: “I quite agree that they are shareholders or members, they should be protected."

Hon. Mr. Wright: “The object of the original Act was to give the As- sociation power to borrow money and that was agreeable to the mem- bers. This is simply to clarify the Act. I am under the impression that the directors were authorized at a meeting of the shareholders to ask for this legislation."

Hon. Mr. Stewart: "That is all I ivant to know. I am only asking for this information as a member of the commitee."

Mr. MacPhee agreed with Mr. Stew- art that every precaution should be taken. It would be strange to ask .for such legislation without the con- sent oi the shareholders. It might be all right and it might be all wrong. Mr. McPhee cited the Co- operative Farmers organization as a case in point, where money had been borrowed and difficulties resulted.

Estate of Dame Louisa Augusta Wood’

The House went into committee onl an Act to appoint new trustees of the last will and testament of Dame Louisa Augusta Wood, Dr. MacDon- ald in the chair.

l-lon. Mr. Stewart, introducing the bill, quoted from the preamble, which is self-explanatory and which rea as follows: ‘

"Whereas Louisa Augusta Fanning being seized in fee of certain lands in the Province of Prince Edward Island, on her marriage with- Sir Gabriel Wood, conveyed her said lands by way of marriage settlement, bearing date the 25th day of June, 1830, to Frederick Augustus Wcth- crall, Thomas Brandram and Charles Rankcn, upon certain trusts in the said Settlement expressed concerning the same, but reserving to herself a power to appoint the said lands and premises.

"And Whereas, the said Dame Louisa Augusta Wood, who survived her husband, died on the 19th day of March A. D., 1872, having made and published her last will and testa- ment dated the 5th day of Ma y, A. D. 1870, whereby shs gave and devised -a portion of her lands and heredita-

Smallwood as Trus- tees of the said Marriage Settlement, and the rents and profits were col- lected by the said Gilbert Gaudet as’ receiver and the total amount real- ized was Seventcen Thousand Do.‘- lars.
