The following despatch from Jeliet, Il., is roing the rounds of the press: A profound sensation was created at the union thanksgiv- ing services of al] the churches, Jxev. Edward Whitman, who last year was quite popular, but who since has been expelled from his church association, on grave charges, was present, and was invited by Rev. O. F. Mat- teson of the Ottawa M. E. Church, to pro- nounce benediction. The people arose and left in disgust, and the rew now is transferred to Rev. Mr. Matteson’s church.

Hon. Mr. Laurier and Messrs. Fisher, Choquette and Welsh, M. P.’s, left here in the special train for the Capes on Wednesday evening, and crossed to the Mainland yester- day. ‘The trip from Cape to Cape was made in about six-and-a-half hours,

In a Scorr Act Town.—-On Wednesday night last a young man, under the influence of liquor, broke the windows of a Scott Act ‘*place” on Syaney Street. He haa not yet been captured.

Last night another young man similarly, affected, amused himself in the same way with the windows of « tenement house on Grafton Street east. He, also, is still at large.

Yesterday afternoon a young lad got so full of some sort cf Scott Act beverage that his legs became a little tangled, and he en- tered the postoftice building to have a quiet rest. Here he was found sleeping off his drunk by acitizen who reported the mat- ter to the police. He figured at the police court this morning.

On Tuesday afternoon some toughs stole a bottle of whiskey from a countryman’s sleigh standing in front of a Queen Street store, and made off with it. A friend of ithe countryman, who witnessed the theft,
