An Avpacious Liz.—‘‘ Mr. Pope has abandoned the contest in Queen’s, on find- ing that he had no chance of being elected, and is now doing his little best to injure Messrs. Yeo and Perry’s prospects in the Fourth District.” The above we clip from the last Summerside Journal. When the editor penned it he knew that he was cir- culating a malicious falsehood. Electors, show your disapproval of such contemptible warfare by to-morrow yoting the square Conservative ticket.

At eleven o'clock on Sunday night a fire originated in the barn of Mr. John Seller, at North River. It spread rapidly, and the flames were communicated to the dwelling- house, thence to the warehouse, and thence to the store. The fire assumed very large pro- portions before it was discovered, and all efforts to extinguish it were useless. The buiidings were all burned to the ground. Resides the four buildings, Mr. Seller lost a large quantity of grain, all his merchandize and farming implements, consisting of wagons, carts, mowing machines, ete. His loss is esti- mated at four thousand dollars ; the amount of insurance being only eight hundred. The fire was evidently the work of an incendiary. A store belonging to Mr. Seller was consumed by tire in the same place in December last.

Danurnovus Manritiwr APVENTURE OF THE Qvuesn.—Apropos of Her Majesty's review of the ironclads at Spithead, it may be interesting to recall the fact that the Queen can look back upon at least one dan- gerons maritime adventure. ; the Islé of Wight in the yacht Hmerald, while she was yet Princess Victoria, the breeze freshened into a gale, and before the vessel could get into Cowes road the decks were swept fore and aft. The com- ing Queen, however, undauntedly remained a witness of the stirring scene ; when a sud-

den squall took the merald aback, and crack went the topmast imme- diately above the cap. The _ pilot, Mr. Saunders, quick as thought,

sprang to where the Princess was standing, lifted her in his arms to a more safe position farther aft, and the next mo- ment crash came the topmast down where the Queen had originally stationed herself.
