The Artilficial Breeding Clubs in Prince Edward Island. start- ing today, are shut down for a period of two weeks, All Clubs will commence operation again on November 1st. This annual shut down period is to provide a break or the Inseminators. Each club through their Board of Directors set the dates as from October to to 31 inclusive. The main reason for the selec- tion of this period is because there are less cattle bred at this time of year. TEN THOUSAND

Ten thousand eight hundred cows have been bred artificially in! Prince Edward Island this year. Each month has shown a steady increase over the prev- ious year. The months of June. July and August are the big ones. The month of July saw I35 cows

One of the feature attractions at the coming Maritime Winter Fair will undoubtedly be the new division for Women's Work and Domestic Handicrafts.

For some time, Maritime Win- ter .Fair officials have . nllzed the lack of interest in the Fair for women. This was expressed a year ago by President F. George McLeod during a news- paper interview. when he stated that much thought was being giv- an to the possibility of establish- ing a Women's Work Division.

The thought has evidently cry- stalliud into action. since class- es for fancy-work of all kinds appear in the 1957 Prize List. These classes will include all types of fancy work and handl- crafts. from quilts and bed- spreads to leather work. weav- ing and Jewelry. '

The Women's Wor k Division will be under the charge oi a committee. formed of the Home '' ' Directors of the three Provinces - Miss Jean "unro. Nova scotia; Miss Rita Undeo hill, New Brunswick; and Miss Theresa Maclseod, Prince Ed- ward Island.

Competition between the pro- vinces will undoubtedly be keen. since the abowa-named Dirac- tors have been busy all summer. selecting the most outstanding articles in their class from the various Exhibitions in each pro- vince. These selected articles will represent the best from each province. so that the items dis- played at the Maritime Winter
