(Montr eal Trade Bulletin.) Canadian eggs, like Canadian bacon, are gradually winning their way into the Eng lish markets. The principal demand 1s for our fresh and pickled eggs, refrigerator stock not being wavted at aii on the other side. The exports of fresh eggs have be- guo rather earlier than usual this year, a3 the demand for these seldom sets in before

August, when the flush of the foreign supply into Great Britain is over, and

prices commence to strengthen and afford a more profitable market for our fresh laid August eygs, which are considered the best of the year. This season, however, 2,250 cases have already been shipped, against only 78 cases for the corresponding period last year. Liverpool is the chief market for Canadian eggs; for of the above shipment 1,682 cases went to that port,485 ewes to Glasgow, and 10 casea to Bristol. A small lot of 10 cases went to Antwerp. As stated by us last week, some heavy contracts have been made with English firms for November-December delivery of pickled eggs, at prices ranging from 6s, 3d. to6s. 94. per long hundred of ten doze ns.

From Novang, Sherbourne county, Minn., comes news of the fatal poisoning, at Santiago, of a family of nine childrea named Allen, caused by drinking lemonade on July 4th. The lemonade contained some poisonous ingredients. The children died one after another and the parents are etill very sick.

Judges Johnson, Dennison and Cole, of the Southern Department of the Kansas Court of Appeals, bave handed down a deci- sion which declared invalid the Kansas divorce law that has been in operation for twenty-five years, and by which it is esti- mated that from 35,000 to 50,000 mismated couples have been separated. It was argued by the attorneys in the case that such a decision would disturb the property rights and custody of children adjudicated in divorce proceedings since the Jaw bas been operative, but the court replies that the legislature is responsible for that The case on trial was that of E. P. Siep herd, error from Ford county. The lower court made a ruling sustaining an objec- tion to allowing the husband to testify. Upoa this point the case was appealed.

Hon. Mr. Tarte went to Montreal on Saturday. He sentachill through the Public Works Department during the day by calling for a detailed list of the em- ployes. This, it is believed, is preliminary to further decapitation.

The grit organ here, the Free Press, on Saturday had the following: “Itisunderstoc d that Sir Oliver Mowatt is not disposed to see the legal profession made ridiculous by a number of persons, unfit alike from p>r- sonality and status, to sport the distincticn of Q.C. The list recently presented to the Governor-General is to be revised, and wisely so.” Your correspondent is ina position to state that Sir Oliver’s action goes beyond mere revision. He has re- commended that the entire list be can- celled. Inasmuch, however, as the Gov- ernor General has approved the list, it is difficult to see how His Excellency will justify himself by withdrawing his appro- val on the mere ipse dixit of Sir Oliver.
