In the Islander of the 192 we have read with a good dealof yawning a co- iumn of twaddle from that incomparable fvol, “ An Elector,” which, together with an editorial article in the same paper, may be noticed at some length in our next No.

“(it may be recollected that when the “ Is, lander” advocated that the Legislative Coun- ci] should be rendered elective, the project was opposed with the utmost virulence in the * Examiner,’ the organ of the Snatchers.”

We cut the above sentence from a dreary article in yesterday’s Islander, wherein the turn-coat editor repeats all his etale and flat abuse against Responsi- ble Government, and, for want of some- thing, new to write and print, gives us about the twentieth edition of his praises of Republican institutions. {n 1837 and 1838, as we have been informed, Duncan helped to grow] down, and perhaps but- cher in cold blood, the “ rebels” of Cana- da for daring to grasp at Republican in- stitutions. All at once he discovers great merit in those institutions, and though their advocacy was high treason in 1838. it is Very commendable and patriotic now! The fact is, Duncan is compelled to write something to keep, if possible, the public from thinking of that which must shortly be the ruin of himself and his masters~- Responsible Governmeut, as by that they will Jose their offices and he the editorship of the Islander, there being no prospect thereafter of raising the needful to sustain the speculation any longer. Our object is not, however, to comment on the column of rubbish which Duncan has pitched together in yesterday's paper, buttogivea flat denial to the sentence we have above quoted. THe Examiner has never “ opposed with the utmost viru- lence” the “ project” of making the Le- gislative Council an elective body : much jess, we do not remember ever having ex- pressed an opinion on the subject one way or the other. Duncan has fallen so desperately into the vice of lying, that he cannot speak the truth on any matter even when it would be much to his advantage #oto do. The above isa specimen. He is probably seeking to emulate “An Elec- tor,” a greater liar than whom never dir- tied paper.

MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT—BOAT UPSET AND ONE LIFE LOST.

On Thursday last, during the heavy gale that was blowing at the time, the Ferry Boat, running between Canso Point and Charlottetown, was upset when about half way across, and sunk immediately. There were on board at the time three men and a boy, viz. John Jonstone, the Ferryman, his boy Francis Murphy,Hugh Curry, of the West River, and Nei] Curry of Nine Mile Creek. The three first named persons were picked up by a boat from Warren Farm, after being about an hour in the water, in which they supported themselves by two oars from the lost boat, and the latter named person, Nei] Curry, sunk from exhaustion while attempting to swim ashore, and was drowned. This unfortunate man bore the character of an upright and industri- ous farmer, and has left a wife and seven children in a destitute condition.

A Coroner’s inquest was held this day on view of the body of the deceased, when a verdict of Accidental Death was re- turned.
