Six,—Regarding the roads and bridges from Souris to Gowan Brae, particularly on the east side of the river, to travel the Island all over one cannot find such a road in any fettlement. WhenI was a boy I used to hear my grandfather talk about the roads. When he first settled here he used to cross what they call Hughes’ brook on a_ few _ poles. Well it is very little better at the present day. Ithink it is about time we haa a new bridge built, not put down two feet as the last one was when it was built. We have now to climb one of the woret hills in King’s County. I think it is about time our Government did something for this place. When askiog a man lart week if he itended tendering for the drawing of milk to our factory at Gowan Brae, what did he say? “{ would have to first get a team of n u'es for such @ road, for to get down Hughes Hill, one would have to in- vent airbrakes on a waggon.” It is costing us double the amount it ought to, to draw our milk on accountof such roads, Al! are supporters of the Government, and this is the way we are used. I think it is time we changed our minds and try if they will do something. I might go one mile fur- ther up the river, right at our factory
door. There we find what is called White’s bridge sinking almost into the river. Here we want another new
bridge sn! the hill straightened, not put in where the old one is. It ought to be raised up. Here is Mr. L. W. White’s floar and lumber mill. Not five chains away up the stream. Such a bridge should be built high enough to let this man’s cows go up to the mills. By building in this way it would not only be a benefit to Mr. White, but would cut down such a bill for the public. Talking to a man o1 W. 8. bridge I made some remarks to him about it being so low and what a benefit it would be to the piblic aid Mr. White if it would be raised eight or ten feet. Whatdo you suppose he said tome? White is too big a Tory for us to benefit that much. What is your opinion of such @ man as that? Climb, t :is big hill rather than benefit his fe¥!ow- mon.
