The Con- troller will of course look after the Securities, &c. The Deputy would most likely be changed under the present system of govern- ment, but hon. members meant, that he would not go out with the Uovenment, he considered it an improvement on the present system, the business of the country might be retarded by the death or otherwise of the Controller, if the appointment of the Deput was made byliim, it would of course cease wit him.

Mn. Wsiinoirrox, no Government would ap- point nn assistant without consultin the prin- cipal,nor could an Assistant be turne out with- out consulting the Government.

On the second clause being read, providing the Salary, '
