West ,Prince Liberal Asst)

The annual meeting of the West Prince Liberal Association was held in the Verdun Theatre. O'l.eaary yesterday afternoon with one of the largest crowds in years in at- tendnnce. Mr. William MacKend- rick. of Cempbellton. who has been present for a number of yearn. was unanimously re-elected to that office for another term.

The meeting was addressed by Mr. J. Watson MacNaught. M. P., parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Fisheries who spoke of the tense world situation. He pointed out that not only the fate of the United states is at stake in the Korean situation but the fate of the United Nations and our democratic way of life as well.

The meeting was also addressed by the Hon. W. E. Darby, Attorney

General, the Hon. Harry Cox, Minister of Public Works. the Hon. F. A. Large, Minister of

Exiucatlon. the Hon. A. W. Math- esori, Minister of Health and Wei- fare. Senatcr George Barbour, the Hon. Fohrest Phillips. M. L. A. F. C. Ramsay. M. L. A.. and Hec- tor Richards, M. L. A.

A letter was (read from Premier Walter Jones regretting his ma. billty to be present.

A large number of resolutions We"? passed by the meeting. Res- olutions cf confidence in the Fed- eral and Provincial-leaders of the party were approved as well as one that exi:i.'cssed appreciation for the excellent represntation that is being given the the county and the province by Mr. MacNaught.

Dealing with lccal matters a resolution suggested that O'l..eary school should be given grade ele- ven facilities and one was approv- ed requesting the Canadian Nat- ional Railways to take some means to alleviate the dangercus cross- ing at O'Leary. Another resolution requested that the road to Tig- nish be paved and the meeting urged that the veterans preference be rigidly adhered to in the mak- ing of Government appointments.

A resolutlcn of congratulations to Mr. W. E. Darby on his appoint- merit as Attorney General was also passed. .

Acase under the Lord's Day Act which is before Magistrate R. S. 1-linton,K.C., was adjourned yesterday for a week. The charge is against a Summerslde man and alleges that ”he was present at a public performance. to wit a base- ball game. to which an admission fee of fifty cents per persrm was charged on the Lord's Day con- trary to Section 8 of the Lord's Day Act." y

A party from Cape Traverse was fined 3200 and costs under the Temperance Act for possession He had previously been fined under the Excise Act. A Tempamnce 591 against a person from Urbanville was adjourned for a week.

The new commanding officer of the R.C.A.F. Station, Summeraide, Group Captain H.G. Richards. 0. 3-3.. is expected to arrive here about August 6th, it has been learned. He will assume com- mand shortly after that date.

At present he iron leave in Kentucky after having arrived back from Sweden where he has been air attache at Stockholm since 19-18. The present command- ing officer, Wing Commander G. R. F. Gross, will leave Summer- slde about August 18th. He has been posted to London. England, to attend a joint staff course.

Group Captain Richards is a native of Portsmouth, England and served in the R.A.F. for ten years before coming to Canada in 1938. He joined the R. C. A. F. a year later. s

He then called on Mr. George Ma('Koy. M.L.lt.. to read an ad- dress, followed by the presenta- tion nf many beautiful gifts in- cluding a rnbinet of 1847 Rogers Bros. silverware from members of their family.

The address recalled that both Mr. and Mrs. Arnett lived in the Albany community all their lives and during the last half century their home has "always been one of hospitality and friendship.” The address concluded: "May you both be blessed with health and hap- piness for many years. to enjoy the continued friendship of your many good friends in the prosper-

ous community of Albany." Mr. and Mrs. Arnctt feelingly expressed their appreciation to

Mr. Barry Dick was chairman of the July meeting of the Summer- side Kinsmen Cluh held last even- ing at the Olympia Restaurant. Mr. Vernon Chute of Charrlottctown ,cluh was it guest.

Conlracl let For New School At S'side Airport

A contract for the erection of a school at slemon Park. the real- dentlal area for R. c. A. 1". person- nel at the summerslde airport, has hf!" Riven to M. F. schurman Co. Ltd. and work will commence as soon as the area is cleared. It will be a very fine building with ten classrooms and will be located in the center of the area. of about 265 housing units.

It will be a one-storey frame! construction with concrete floors covered with linoleum. It will be a T-shaped building compoeed of four stages. the first two of which will be built this year. The other

two will be built when and if the need arises. The outside will be finished with asbestos plain

boards to the bottom of the win- dow sills above which will be an- bestos shingles to the eaves.

A flat tar and gravel roof will top off the building. It will have its own boiler room in the base- ment and this is the only section of the basement that will be ex- cavated. In addition to the ten classrooms, one df which will be a kindergarten room, there -will be an office for the principal and wash rooms. The lobby floors and the wash room floors will be done in terazzo tile. ,

It is understood that the build- ing should be completed by the end of this year.-S.

SYDNEY. N. 5.. July 11 N (CP) Drivers Worrell Lewis and Har- ley Harrison shared the spotlight in the Cape Breton Turf Club's sixth card of harness racing at the Sports Centre here tonight before more than 2,000 spectators.

Lewis, who drove five winners ii week ago, took three firsts tonight. He brought home Bert Doyle's Togo Bars in the second race, which was marred by e. three- horse spill on the second stable turn.

Out of six starters, three finish. ed in the second as I collision downed three closely grouped horses. Mack Stout, driven by Gerald Jardine, and Bobby D., reined by Mike Jabalee, dum.pcd on the rail and sldeswiped Plnky Gaum's Bob Long pacing on the outside. All drivers were thrown free and two sulkles smashed. Neither horses or drivers suffer- ed injury.
