Tux market to-day was abundantly stocked and well attended. Fruit of all kinds was plentiful, and commanded high prices. Uherries sold at from 15 to 20 cts. per quart ; currants, 14 to 16 cts.; gooseberries, 14 to 16 ets.; and raspberries from 10 to 15 cts.

Grace has already scored upwards of 2,000 runs this year, and among his prin- cipal innings are 243, 193 not out, 171, two scores of 150 not out, and 117, Six times he has been credited with a total of over 100 runs, and the average up to last week for Thorn- bury was 94, 16-18 per innings.

Her cargo consisted of, 2,008 cases of lobsters, 936 cases of egys, 433 barrels of mackerel, and 3 bales of hair.

A CORRESPONDENT writes:—‘‘The Temper- ance Prayer Meeting held last evening in St. Paul’s Schoolroom, was much better attended than usual, and afforded no little encourage- ment to the few loyal temperance men and women who have of late stood so nobly at the 0st of duty. The venerable Rector of St. Paul's, a true and uncompromising friend of temperance, ccnducted the meeting. While deploring the present reign of lawlessness ia Charlottetown, and regretting the fact that many christian men who should, do not lend their influence to stamp out the iniquitous liquor traflic, still we must not give up hope. Humble prayer and faith in God will most certainly bring ‘‘light out of darkness.” God always answers prayer. We were pleased to observe present, clergymen and laymen repre- senting the different churches, many of whom took part in the meeting by engaging in prayer to Almighty God, that he would interpose, by putting it into the hearts of our rulers and those in atthority a determination to carry out the provisions of our presént temperance law,”

Lonvon, August 3 it is estimated that about eleven thousand people lost their lives by cholera in Exypt. Among these are eighty from British troops, including a Captain and Doctor. A Secon Shock. Napies, August 3, A second shock of earthquake occurred at Ischia yesterday, but without fatal results. All work was stopped and great terror manifested.

A despatch tojthe Daily News from Cape Town says it has transpired that O'Donnell, the murderer of Carey, is an American citizen, and a native of Ohio.

The dry hot weather continues here, and forest fires are raging. Yesterday after- noon the heat from forest fires ignited the powder in Onderdonk’s mill near Yale, which blew up three hundred and sixty cases giant, and ten cases black powder. No lives were lost, but several people were badly injured.

Cholera in Egypt. Lonpon, August 3.

There were 877 deaths from cholera in Egypt on Wednesday, including 273 at Cairo.

The cholera at Bombay is declared§to be epidemic. Where were} 101 deaths “there last week.

The Irish Murder, Conspirators.

Lonpon, July 3. The steamer in which Michael Kavanagh, Joseph Hanlan, Peter Carey, Joseph Smith, and six other Irish murder conspirators sailed has arrived at South Australia.

The Operators Strike.

Boston, Aug. 3. All the operators of the railroads refusing commercial business at the demand of the strikers are being promptly discharged.

Telegraph Notes.

Bake Jones, the colored boy murderer, who, in an unprovoked attack, killed John Foster about a year ago at Pittsburg, Pa., has been sentenced to be hanged on October fourth.

Private telegrams received at Berlin state that there was a slight earthquake on the Island of Ischia on the 24th of July, but the fact was hushed up by the authori- ties for fear visitors might be deterred from visiting the island.

King Alfonsoand Queen Christina arrived at the Royal Palace of San Iderfonso La Granja on the Ist. The king went to the frontier to meet his royal spouse. This fact dissipates whatever may still remain of the theory that they had quarreled.

Preparations are comple for the rowing regatta at lake Minnetonka to day. Six men start: MHanlan, Plaisted, Riley, Hosmer, Lee and Turner. It is expected Hanilan will win, and for the second place Hosmer and Turner are favorites. The race will be rowed in two heats three men each; on Thursday the best two men in each heat will row the final heat.

The executive committee of seven of the Irish National Leagues of America were in session at Manhattan Beach Hotel on the Ist inst., all the membera being present. Patrick Egan and Matthew Harris, of Ire- land, were also present. Among the most important of the subjects considered was that of land grabbing in southern territories by English aristocrats and English corpora- tions. A committee was appointed with in- structions to secure a complete report in each State and territory of the quantity of land purchased, names of the purchasers and a statement showing whether or not such persons are citizens of the United States.

Fifteen hundred tons of chloride of lime were ured at Casamicciola for dorizing purp:ses, but the stench in upper town is still unbearable, Water gushed violently out of the spring again. It was almost boiling hot. A slight shock was felt on Monday night. Two guards were killed. The military prevent the landing of all persons not provided with special passes. The latest advices from Casamic- ciola say that a great number of English and Americans arrived in search of friends and relations supposed to be victims of the calamity. An American lady reports that her aunt is missing, and it is feared she is buried in the ruins. One family has been rescued after having been buried thirty- six hours in the ruirs. Of a Swiss family numbering eight only one daughter sur- vives. She states she heard her father

and thunder storms, not much change in temperature.
