Regiment, now returning home alter along service in the Canadas, in',wliich the good conduct of the officers and men have been alike conspicuous. It would appear that the non-commissioned ollicers and privates have conceived an affection for the Colony, since we learn, that the number embarked in the Athol is 290, whilst 277 have extended ‘their services in North America, under the regulations lately promulgated, authorising the transfier ofeoldiers desirous of remaining in Canada, who belong to Regiments who are_ quitting the command,'to Regiments destined to remain in these previnces fora longer period. The hired schooner Gulnare, with Captain Bayfield, Royal Navy, and the Surveying party on board, sailed on Saturday, for her cruizing ground off Prince Edward Island, and in the Gulf ofSt. Lawrence, to continue the survey of the St. Lawrence, and its emboucheures, in which she has for some years been employed with such great benefit to all who navigate these watérs.—Quebec Mercury. “ The new barque Atlantic of Perth, (284 tons) George Mortour, master, tiom Dundee, for Quebec, with a gen- eralcargo, ran on shore near Cape St. Francis, N. F. at half-past 11 o'clock, on the night of Tuesday, 5th May. The passengers, 27 in number, and the crew, had a mi~ raculous escape, but all succeeded in getting ashore, with tlm‘exception of a boy named Hogg, who was unfortu- nately drowned." '

THE unanimous decision of the twelve Judges of Englaujdmn the question oftlie Clergy Reserves in Canada, recently expressed in the House of Lords, hav- ing shown, indisputably, that the claims oftlie Bishop of Nova Scotiu, on the part of the Church of England, to the wholeof the proceeds of the Globe Lands in this Island (to the entire exclusion ofall other religious deno- minations, and more especially to that of the Church of Scotland), are without foundation, inasmuch as that the terms “Ministers of the Gospel," in reference to this Island, must (according to the plain and obvious mean- ing oflanguage) be equally comprehensive, and, in con- sequence,_ bear the same legal construction with the terms “Protestant Clergy” in relation to Canada; it is, therefore, requested, that all those, professing to belong to the Church of Scotland, who feel interested in this important matter, will meet at the Wellington Hotel, in Charlottetown, on Tuesday, the 30th instant, at the hour of 12 o’clock, noon, in order to consider the propriety of addressing a Petition to the Right Honorable Her Majes- ty’s Secretary of State for the Colonies, on this subject, to the effect, that, iftlic moneys arising from the sale of Glebe Lands in this Island be at all diverted from the object to which they were appropriated by the Act
