Mr. Dick, an expert mining engineer, was lately at Port Hood examining the coal fields. He is said to have been very favorably impressed as to quantity and quality of the mineral. The eye of Speculation and capital is evidently ‘rivet- ted upon the coal wealth of Inverness.

Montreal Gazeite: It is a peculiar fact that while the Liberal party is most pro- nounced in its professions of ecomony, there has never been in the Dominion a Liberal administration, either federal or provincial, but has increased the expendi- ture, added to the taxee, or augmented the debt. Mr. Gladstone advises Lord Rosebery to read works on ancient theology, and Mr. Campbell-Bannerman that he should take a course of French novels. The Premier is suffering from insomnia, and if he is constituted like ordinary men it would appear that Dr, Gladstone’s prescription was most likely to meet the needs of the case.
