AT THE MOST recent meeting of the UPEI Sen- ate on January 15th, Univer- sity President Dr. C.W.J. Eliot commended Dr. Louis Hanic, a professor in the Bi- ology department, for his in- dependent research on the problem of toxic mussells in PEI waters. Dr. Hanic sus- pects that high concentra- tions of microscopic organ- isms called diatoms are the cause of the toxicity. Course Changes

Once _ again the Curriculum, Course Change and Calendar Committee has been busy. Senate approved almost 30 new courses for the Masters program at the Atlantic Veterinary College. They cover all of three facul- ties of Anatomy and Physi- ology, Pathology and Micro- biology, and Health Manage- ment.

Other curriculum changes include the fact that History honours students will now have the option of studying the his- tory of Greece and Rome in addition to the histories of Europe, Britain, Canada and the Americas as part of their core courses. French majors have had the requirements for a major changed slightly to give them both more choice in their core courses and to include more cred- its from lower-level courses

the Senate joined the previously independent departments of Sociology and Anthropology and set up a rotating system of Chairs for six years. Now a Senate committee will be set up to examine the advan- tages and disadvantages of this system. After this com- mittee’s report Senate will decide whether or not to con- tinue with the rotations.

As part of a series of lec- tures on ethics sponsored by the St. Dunstan’s Board of Governors, Dr. Kennth Goodpaster from the Grad- uate School of Business Ad- ministration at Harvard Uni- versity will be speaking on ethics in the business world. This lecture will take place on Wednesday, January 27th at 7:30 in the Duffy Amp- itheatre.
