Surely the Province is now at sucha pass that any capable,boneat business, man in charge of the public busiaess, ought to setabout inventing and carrying out a new and beiter policy. The interest charge against this little Prevince ia, in round numbers,$20,000 a year, —-enough to pay for a new asylum annex every year for all time to com? ; enoug's, if jadicioue- ly expended, to impreve pcrmanently in the course of afew years, all the principal highways in the Province; enough to give ustwoor three eteel bridges every year, forever ; enough, asthe Hon. Mr. Gordon said, to materially advance and im- pove our agricultural N-xt year, if the promises of tbe Gorernment should be fulfilled, there will be added tothe interest charge of $20,000 @ year,an additional liability of $12,000 & year On account ot the new Hill-borough bridge. Thirtr-two thousand dollars to be taken,directly or indirectly, out et the pockets of 20,080 farmers, every year, — upwards of $150 each—for all time to come, for interest, alone, on the public debt of the Province. Besides this 11] the ordinary and extraordinary services of the Provinces are tobe provided for. But Premier Farquharson goes smilingly on, bestowing compliments upon “the ia- telligence of the people,” while he acts as though the people were fools.

Premier Farquharson has evidently no policy, except one of haggle and humbug. He has been placed in a difficul: position, the requirementsof which he is unable to fill. The Opposition and the conutry at large have given him a fair trial. He had, last evening, @ grand opportunity to show that he was able to stand the test of ability to grapple with “the situation.” But he has bsen found lamentably wanting. We must, nowever, admit that he deserves credit for

The contracts for al! the work to. be done and materials furnished for this year’s construction have now been awarded and it is pleasing to learn that, so far, the entire cost of the work has not exceeded the Chief Engineer’s estimate.
