Sir,—The Island Farmer newspaper, of Summerside, haa an editorial article on trade witn the West Indies in its issue of the 7th inst. It was not long before the institution, to use the Farmer’s expression, was “overtaken from behind,” but by some technicality, the farmers fortunately escaped responsi- bility and the creditors are still un, aid. So much for pork shipments to the West Indies.

Oats.— Within afew vards of the Far- mers office isa West India business in liquidation. No doubt the affable liquida- tor would enlighten the Editor of the Farmer as to the profits accruing from ont shipments tothe West Indies. This much is known that the proprietor of that business, a fairly good business man, who deserved to succeed, perhaps, acting under theadvice of the came men who know #o much now of advantage to farm- ers, continued shipments of oats to the West Indies until] he lost every dollar of his own, and every dollar he could borrow from his business friends totalling perhaps $100,600. The farmers were not fleeced at all,
