ihr-re is considerable reason to criticize West's pass to his part- ncr's five-diamond bid and also to East's double of five hearts, but it can't be denied that these con- servative actions should have re- turned high dividends.

It was absurd for West to take an entry out of his own hand. as he did when he led the spade king. East could have ruffed three clubs. for a 1400-point penalty and I atop...
