Servite Lapor.— Another care of servile labor on ‘he Sabbath is to be brought egainst the Halifaxjstreet2Railwey Co In the last case the charge was brough! against drivers but this time the president and secretary of the company will be made defendants. The information in this case will, it is understood, be laid by a missionary who has been prominent in Evangelical Alliance circles. The case will be brought in the police court first.

Wants His Cuitp.—A man named Charles Watling eppeared at the police court this forenoon asking for informatica as to how he should proceed ia the matter of regaining pos- sexsion of his little daughter who is now in the custody of a man named J. W. Matheson. Watling said that on the death of his wife, some two years ago, he gave the child to Matheson to board. Now he understands that the child is being ill-treated and wants to regain possession of her, but Matheson refuses to give her up. Watling was advised to retain the services of a lawyer; as it was not a matter for the interference of the police court.

St Dunstan's CaTnepraL.—The men’s mission closed last evening at seven o'clock, with the recital of the beads, the Papal Benediction, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and an able and scholarly sermon on “The Rule of Faith,” by Rev. Father Doherty, S. J. The mission throughout was very successful, about 2300 women and 1,700 men receiving Holy Come m inion daring the two weeks. Fathers D -berty and UO’ Rryan will leave here on Wed- nesdav morning for Springhill, N. S., where | they will co-duct a mission. Father Doherty is a native of St. John and Father O'Bryan lelongs to Halifax.

Scorr Act 1s Moncton.—A recent des- patch says: There is likely to be a lively time in Moncton within the next few few weeks. Mr. Rawlings of St. John is now doing police duty, but although ap pointed as *% policeman, it is well known that his duty is really more in the nature of a Scott act inspector. The council, it ap- pears, did not care to appoint a Scott Act inspector, and aa the regular police could not or would not enforce the law it was de- cided to appoint Mr. Rawlings. His ap pointment is fora month, and it is suppos ed that his continuance in the service will depend altogether upon the degree of suc cess achieved. The actien of the council has created quite a breeze among the liquor dealers, who are not a bit mure anxious for law than other people.
