LOBSTER CANNING shut down on jthe 20th tast. The product will be large (perhaps too large for immediate demand), although a good deal bothered by storm on the north coast. Great pressure has been brought to bear on thé Minister to extend the timeof fishing, but he very properly refused todo so. With the information being collected by the Inspector and other fishery officers, the Government will be better able to decide next vear.

Anotuxr Wreck.—Capt. Boudrot, of the schooner ‘‘Kate,” at Pictou, reports that on Tuesday, the 19th inst., while off Cape George, the wind at the time blowing a heavy gale, he sighted the spars of a sunken vessel—appar- ently small—about one-quarter of a mile off. Shortly after a large black dog, with white

-neck, was sighted swimming about, and made

for the **Kate.” Theanimal when it saw that assistance could not be given, turned and swam for shore. The name of the wrecked vessel has not yet been ascertained.

Fioops 1x ENGLAND, — A teh from London, Thursday, states that renewed floods are reported in various parts of England and Wales. The reports are that the harvests are more deplorable at several places than in thi hour’s continuous rain. The steamer *‘Helvetia,” which sailed from Liverpool on Wednesday for New York, took eighty farm- ers for Texas, who are dissatisfied with the agricultura! prospects of England.

At a ieeting of persons interested in the suppression of intemperance, held on Thurs- day evening last, it was resolved to ask W. &. Dawson and H. J, Cundall, Esqrs., to allow themselves to be put in nomination for the
