And hearing James and Mr. D. talk of old years this evening by the fire, we thought of the cour- age of the pioneer island folks- those who "itcnt down to the sea in ships” and those who turned virgin forests into lift) loved clear- mgs to grow Ill'5l crops in this island that was new; to build their humble log cabins. and rude mills on the streams, to erect presently their Cliiirches and fash- ion their schools, to ply old crafts: "The tinker. the tailor, the candle- stick maker". tlie smith, the coop- er . . . how many there were! And taking much of the history of those early days with them. each having t'(lfTll'lI)llIC(I his or her share to their era of living, they sleep beneath quaint stones in cities of the dead, There too oth- er repair and shall. we in our turn.

Today it was a mother and granriiiiotlier of that comniunityi that is Rob's. who was borne to a pretty country ciiurcliyard and her last long rest. She had lived- long and well. and of late was. we suspect. soniewhat lonely as are older folk for the kin andl ttcnds whom they had seen drop by the way, As other mothers she had cuddled her babes and later even as we with a little tug at our heart. watched them set forth to school on a first morn- mg. and then grow up so quick- ly to take up the burdens and sures of adult lives and living.

A gentle, quiet woman she was, content with home and loved ones and friends. These will remem- ber her now. when all by herself ahe is gone to that far land of

Today added still another work- er to the staff at Alderlea. In the wood-yard beyond the House across the Lane. the helper who gave fine assistance both here and at Robis through last summer and fall and at times during the wint- wood-Ip1it- ting. Mack was with him, for this man is among the preferred friends of the children. loading his small wagon with the fresh new sticks, his favor: to be im- partially divided between the two houses.

"Am I a help to you?" he queri- ed later at the door. cheeks rosy from his exertion, when be pre- sented his offering.

At the North Tryon Presbyterian Manse at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. February 16. 1955. Rev. Lawrence Blaikie united in holy matrimony. Louise Joan. daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Murdock Dawson. Albany, to Charles Ever- ett. son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Tit mson. North Tryon;

'i'iie bride. given in marriage by her father. chose a blue suit with pink accessories. Her eorsagc was of American Beauty roses.

Her bridesmaid was her twin sister. Mary. who was attired in a grey suit with blue accessories. Her corsage was of white cama- t ons. ;'

Mr. Harvey Costain acted as best man. Mrs. Dawson chose for her

daughter's wedding a light grey suit with green accessories. Her corsage was of red roses.

The room's mother wore a brown uress with white accessor- les. Her corsage was yellow mums.

Amidst showers of confetti the newly-weds motored to the home of the bride's parents where a reception was held for approxi- mately 90 guests. The room, lit by candelight, was beautifully decorated with pink and ,whitc streamers. A three-tier wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom centered the bride's table.

The toast was proposed by the De coness Mary A. Macxenzie. an responded to by the groom. A telegram to the bride and groom was read by the best man from Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Daw- son. Miami. Florida.

After the reception the remain- der of the evening was spent in

dancing after which all joined in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Thomson many happy years of wedded life.

1 cup water

1 package seasoned bread stuff-

V4 cup chopped parsley

Cooking time: Five minutes

1 lb. chopped beef chuck

ks lb. chopped lean pork

1 tbs. prepared mustard

1 tsp. salt

Vi tsp. pepper

1 egg. slightly beaten

1 cup tomato sauce

Oven temperature: 350 degrees.

Baking time: One hour.

Serves: Six.

In a saucepan cook the onion in the butter and water. Pour over the crumbs and parsley in a bowl. Let stand. In a bowl combine the beef. pork. mustard. salt. pepper and egg. Roll out the meat mix- ture into a rectangle 114 x 7 in.) between two pieces of waxed paper. Remove the top-sheet of paper. Spread the dressing over the surface of the meat. Roll as for J ly roll. Place in a well greas d bread pan it! x 5 x 3 in.) Pour the tomato sauce over the top. Bake in a moderate oven until firm, Serve hot or cold.
