representing the different factories mentioned were in attendance, and bidding began with only two buyers present, vis, Mr. Spillet of the firm of Dil- lon & Spillit, and Mr. A J Biffin.
Atthe third call Mr. Biffia bought the following at 84 cents off the board :

The following extract from the Trade Bulletin of Montreal was read to the meet- ing.
“It seems impossible to get rid of the peculiar flavor which characterizes P. E. Island cheese. The Island being long, the (ows teed upon @ certain grass which grows along its shores and gives it a flavor of an oveter, There is aclass of covsimers in England, however, which likes it.”
This gave rise to some indignant discus- sion and the secretary waa inetructed to write explaining the errors in the paragraph aod denying the imputation contained therein, :
Asked for their opinion regarding this paragraph Messrs Biffio and Spillett said that they have never had any complaint of the nature. It had sometimes happen-~ ed that the cheese when kept too long was a little * off flavor.”
Toe next meeting of the Board will take place on Tuesday the 1st of August.

Loypox, July 17.—London is threat- ened witha water famine. This is the latest scare, and it is causing no end of anxiety. Last summer it was bad enough iu the east end, but this year the whole of London and it- suburbs are threatened. The flow of the Thames is much lower than it oae been for masy years, and the water companies are taking more than ever from it.

Qvesec, July 19.—Quebec was visited by adisastrous conflagration yesterday, fire destroying over sixty houses. The fire broke out in a house occupied by a family named Nadeau, a shoemaker ot the corner of Richardson Street and Boulevard Lang- lier,
Before the firemen arrived and got to work the fire had made considerable prog~ ress.
Next to the building where the fire orig- inated was a shop full of inflammable material, varnish, oils, etc, belonging to Mr. Buabeau.
U. fortunately there wasa break in the water ‘main and thesupply of water, by old pipes, was very poor. A strong north east wind was blowing and the fire spread rapidly. A detachment of Royal Cana« the Citidal and they set to work at once pulling down two houses belonging to Gaay & Bourget, in order to stop the pro gress of the fire. At five o’clock twenty houses had been destroyed, aud the fire was still raging fiercely, threatening to spread to the large UVirigregation de Notre Dame Church, (Roman Catholic) en the corner of St. Joseph and Caron Nireets.
Shortly after 8 p. m. the brigade suc. ceeded in getting the fire under control but not before it bad reduced to ashes between sixty and seventy buildings. The fire covered three blocks. Te lose approxi- mately is $125,000.
