Ar the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court, this forenoon, Edward Gahen, arrested for assault, was remanded to iail for examination. Joseph Valley, for breaking windows in Rollo Fue Engine House, was fined $5. Owen McCarey and James Feunessy, arrested for disorderly conduct on the streets, were sentenced to four and two months’ imprisonment, with hard labor, respectively.

“A Tuer in THe Nicut.”—One of our city private watchmen was on Saturday night, robbed of a handseme amount of money in gold—seven and a half sovereigns. It appears that he, during the night, retired for a nap with the watchman of another section When he awoke, he discovered to his surprise that the gold was gone. ihe unfortunate watchman has a very strong suspicion of the thief, and the matter will probably come before the Court in a few days.

GENTLEMEN,—I sincerely thank you for the address with which you, en behalf of the Caledonian Club, have been pleased to pre- sent me.

Please convey to the members of the Club, with which [ have been associated from its tirst inception, the great pleasure I feel at re- ceiving from them an address of sympathy at a time when, owing to ill health, | am obliged to seek in another land,’a warmer and more genial clime.

The gatherings held under the auspices of the Club, have always afforded me tke great- est enjoyment, and I have many a time felt at the marshalling of the Clans, under the in- spiring strains of the pipes, to the wild slogan of the ‘‘Campbeils,’ or the plaintive air of ‘*Lechaber no More,’ as if my foot was on my native heath.

The little encouragement I have been able to give to a feeling of loyalty to Scottish nationality, has been more the effect of Scot- tish sympathy and feeling, than the result of any active exertions on my part; for cold would be the heart of thst son of the heather whose heart would not warm at the mention of that land where Ussian dwelt and Conla’s minstrel sang.

I have always prized the good opinions of the Caledonia Club, and it is particularly gratifying +o me to have the sympathy of its members now. Its interestsand welfare have always been dear to me, and as | look back over its history, my only regret is that I was so often unable to zive that time and atten- tion to it which the nature and scope of the Institution deserved.

Time shall never eflace from my remem- brance the many acts of kindness shown me personally by the members of the Club, and the hours of social pleasure we have enjoyed together. The anniversary of Scotland’s patron saint—soon to return—will, I doubt not, receive this year at the hands of the Club, those Highland honors which have so much distinguished its celebration in days gone by.

I trust that the hopes you have expressed for my recovery may be fully realized, and that it may be my pleasure, at no distant day, to return to the land of my adoptioy, in which I have spent the greater part of my life, and in whose welfare | think I may safely say, | have taken some little interest.
