La Ligue de la Croix et Le Scott Act

M. le curé a, dernièrement,

donné avis à ses paroissiens que la société de la Ligue de la Croix, ouvrira prochainement ges séances d'hiver. 11 faut es- pérer que tous œux qui ent à eœur le bien-êtra moral de la paroisse se feront un devoir d'assister à ces réunions et de coopérer non seulement par leur présence, mais aussi par leurs bonnes réso.ntions, à l'avance- ment de cette société qui peut contribuer si fortement au bien- être spirituel et temporel de la paroisse. (On a constaté que la Ligue de la Croix, lorsqu'elle est conduite d'une manière en tout conforme à la constitution, est l'arme la plus puissante dont on puisse faire usage ponr ané- antir les cabarets. On est assez bien oonvaincu, aussi, que la ioi civile sous le nom de Svcott Aet n'a jamaiseu de résultats satisfaisants dans notre paroisse. Quelle en est ia cause, c’est une affaire d'opinion ; mais, selon nous, nous le disons librement, la loi du Scott Act n'est pas ex écutée selon ses mérites ; de jà son impuissance d'arriver an but désiré. Jamais, pour un mo: ment, cenx qui envisagent cette question sous son véritable as- pest, ont entretenu l'idée que le Scott Act réussirait à démolir la forteresse da whisk-y en panis sant les uns avec tonte la sévé- rité qu'inflige la loi et en ]A- chant les autres par un compro mis quelconque. Etablissement Frigo- rifique a Tignish

Mercredi après midi, le Dr. Kendall du département de la marine et des pêcheries adres- sait la pa'ole à la salle Ste. A Fish Drier at Tignish

At the meeting held in St. Mary's Hall, en Wednesday last, by Dr Kendallefthe department lof Marine and Fisheries, several suggestions were threwn ont each in its way benefcial to the fishermen. One suggestion made by Mr A.F. Larkin seems to vs te be what is absolutely uoces- | )sary here. “A Fish Drier” should be here, said Mr. Larkin. Feel- ing that the mere mention ot a Fish Drier at Tignish was net sufficient explanation, we made iteur duty to interview Mr. Larkin on the subject. In a praotieal business way Mr. Lar- kin shewed us that a Drier with a eapacity of about fifty quintals per day eould be established at Tignish with good results. "Last year, said Mr. Larkin, 1 went very extensively in ced fishing, supplying hundreds of men with necessary outfit.
