A despatch to the Times from Alexandria states that Admirai Seymour has sent an ultimatum to the authorities demanding the instant stoppage of the construction of

earthworks under threat of opening fire. |

The werk has ceased for the moment ALexanprta, July 6.

Despite all denials to the contrary, work on the fortifications continues. Admiral Seymour delays formally demanding the cessation of work until all British residents are of board the vessela in the harbor. They are now hastily embarking.

In a long editorial, the Medical News says: From the report it must appear that those who exp ected to demonstrate the ass- aasin’s criminal irresponsibility by charges in his brain will have a difficult task. Some de- yiatiops from a typical normal brain are re- ferred to m the report, but they have absolutely no signification from the point of view of mental derangement.

A Maritime Conference has concluded to seek in England five young men for our ministry. On the subject of ministerial recriits an exchange has these words, which are timely :—‘‘ Now pastors drop out of their work, or go upward to reward. Is the church sure of filling their places? We say : ‘‘God buries his workmen, but car- ries on His work.” At the same time, we can add may dv all possible to keep the ranks full of devout, devoted men. Do we stimulate the boys to look to the min- istry? Dowe so prompc our own boys! Do we implant the idea sufficiently deep among young men in our church institu- tions? Do we reserve enough room for young recruits, and do we never displace them unwisely by accepting older men of insufficient if not actually deficient outfit ? Far from being ‘‘ crowded,” all work in all churches is crying out for strong, efficient, godiy workers.” — Provincial Wesleyan.
