The fact is, that a physician, who is a great revolutionist, but driven to desperatimt by want of money, went one day to the Palace, and although he has a wooden leg, entered as nimny as if it was his own house. Being met, and asked who he wanted, he replied that he wished to speaho his Holiness on very urgent aﬂairs. Willi much diﬁiculty he was induced to withdraw. When the news reached him, he Was employed in shovelling a heap of coals into his collar. Mr. Von Mulder has resided in this city for many years, and earned a livelihood by steadily pursuing the avo— cation ofa journeyman painter, and has been apparently indifferent to any other distinction than that of an industrious, unambitious mechanic—Hat. The number of Baptist Chapels in England and Ireland, is 16,77; ofmem- hers, 11,272 ; an increase since last year of 9639. .

From the annual report of the Wes- Ieyan Conference, it appears that the number of members in Great Britain is 331,024; an increase of 4,297 in last year. The number of ministers, preach- ers, &c., 1,105, an increase of 12.

The number of lrishmen in the British Artny, in 1841, according to an oﬂcial paper, was about forty thousand.
