1. What can we use alcohol for where water would be useless be- eause water freezes in our winter temperatures?

(a) In thermometers because pure alcohol does not freeze until (72 degrees. below zero.

(b) In the radiators of autom- oilee where water may be used in iummer but not in freezing wea- ther. .

2. Water is used to put out a fire. but alcohol. .which in its pure form is a transparent liquid like water, burns with a hot blue flame without any smoke. How is this a useful quality in alcohol? -

A small alcohol hmp will boil the kettle. Also alcohol can be mixed with gasoline as a fuel for driving motor engines. I

3. Why do doctors always seem to have alcohol ready to use? V

Have you gone to the doctor to gets "shot of serum" to pre- lent taking diphtheria. or whoop- ing cough? Did you notice that he wipes your arm with a disin- fecting liquid to kill any germs before he pierces the skin? That's alcohol. If you are feverish and sick has the nurse rubbed you with something to cool the skin? rhat's' rubbing alcohol.

So we see that alcohol is rated as second in importance as a liquid to water, and it is used in making chloroform and other which are used to put patients in a hospital to sleep during a sur- gical opustion. Citizens in Georgetown and throughout the Province are pleas- ed to hear that Dr. Kimball Keep- ing of Quebec City received his Ph. D. degree in engineering com- munications from McGill Univer- sity last. fall, being the first to be granted a Doctor's degree in eng eering by McGill. Dr. Keep- ing is now working with the Canadian Armament Research and Development Establishment at Val Cartier. Que. Dr. Keeping is well known in Georgetown where, as a boy he attended Georgetown High school, during the time his father. the late Dr. B. C. Keeping practised medicine here.

Prince Edward Island's appeal as a summer resort canno be disputed but evidently one little fellow is of the opinion that the tourist season is out too short, as he remained here instead of travelling away wiith his com- panions to sojourn in the sunny south, or perhaps he wishes to in- itiate the Province as a winter tourist resort. The little fellow referred to was a beautiful and very pretty robin red breast. which was seen on Monday morning January 19th by Mrs. Laura Lav- vers of Georgetown. He could be the poor little robin of the well known song. who-is walking to Virginia, he can't afford to fire.

the city with her sisters, return- ing home on Monday.

The condition of Mr. Mike Ryan, who has been a patient in the Charlottetown Hospital for several weeks, is reported as much im- proved. A lot of people in this vicinity don't. know Mr. Ryan, as he resided in the United states for many years and only recent- ly came back to the old home to live in retirement.

This has been a tough winter on mail drivers, especially those who are on the roads that lead away from the pavement. All the way laiicly there has been no road for wagon or sleigh on the clay routes but the mail driver who pledged himself to the task must go. rain or shine. good roads or bed.

A new house here built two years ago by a veteran and stand- ing idle is reported as being con- sidered as a home for a retired gentleman from the City. He has been here looking the property over and making other plans a- bout coming here to reside.

Nothing has been done there yet in the line of lobster packing and no information has been re- leased about the plants operating. Last season the co-op factory operated while the old Lloyd Cox factory remained closed. Since then Mr. Cox sold the plant to other parties, the new management say they have not decided about pack- ing lobsters as yet.

Sickneu has struck hard. this winter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. O'Brien, who spend the summer months at their sum- mer home here. Their oldest daughter who was stricken with polio in September spent almost two months in hospital on three occasions. Foilowing this Mrs. O'Brien was confined to hospital with virus pneumonia and Sun- day and Monday January 25th and 26th their two younger child- ren were taken to hospital with a severe attack of virus flu that doctors are fighting to wipe out.

All are sorry to ieam that Mr. Ralph Sinnott is a patient in the Veteran's section of the Charlotte- town Hospital. where be under- went another operation on his left hand. Mr. sinnott.,a veteran of World War Two had his hand severly shattered while serving in Italy and has had several operations since. with parts of the cone removed. A son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Sinnott. he has been on the staff of Chandler Brothers in the city for a number of years and his friends hope to see him back at work again before too long.

..'The December meeting of the Kilmuir W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. Colin MacDonald. Mrs. Dan Stewart. the president. open- ed the meeting with the "Institute Ode". Five members were in at- tendance to respond to roll call. which was an exchange of Christ- mas gifts. The gifts were taste- fully wrapped for the occasion and placed in a container, which was passed around for each one to draw from it. Nine visitors were welcomed at the meeting.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the retiring secretary-treasurer, Miss Anne MacDonald, and other business was attended to. The subject of music classes in the school came under discussion and it was suggested that if the proposed teacher could not come. a radio be bought for the school.
