The strange case of the daughter of the Lion. A C. Ramage, of Bellair, Ohio, who having been bitten on Aug.

1875, by a copperhead snake, and her life having been saved, bas had a return of the symptoms ot the poison ing on the 19th of August of every

year since,

ever, she was unable to bear through the period of the paroxysms, and died in great agony. The case of Miss Ramage is exactly the same, and it is feared that she will not be able to” sur vive the dreaded ordeal now approach ing. onto

The man that works ten or eleven months in order to save a little pot with which to give his family a few weeks’ holiday rest, recreation and joli fication, will enjoy what pleasures are to be obtained in this world, and will, undoubtedly, stand ia well for the next. For the brain-worker, an occasional re- mission of toil is a necessary condition of continued vigor. The heightened tension of modern life, has especially accentuated the need for occasional periods devoted to recreation and re aecumulation ot energy. All workers, if they are to last, must have holidays. This is the holiday season, and let every one take advantage of it. Throw care tothe winds, and let gas and water rates stand till next quarter. Tog up your family in their old duds, and come to our back lakes. Come and fill your lungs with pure ozone; your pretty little tumtums with good, whole- some food, your minds with renewed

vigor; and your hearts with fraternal sympathy with all mankind. This is

the period for recreation. See to it that

Irish Emigration.

The Tuke Emigration Committee, during the three — it has been in ex- istance, has assisted 9,452 persons to emigrate from Ireland and settle in the United States and the colonies, at an expenditure of £68,500, of which sum the Imperial Government contributed’ £44,000. The committee state that, having expended the money entrusted to them, and having largely helped by means of emigration to meet the emer- gency which existed, “they have decid- ed for the present to cease their opera- tions, while still keeping their organiza- tion inexistence in view of possible future requirements.’
