Foreigners. especially they who hate been tieeiistomed to the sunny shores of the Medi- terranean. frequently oldert to the variation; of the English climate as exeessiVe ; and not without justice. for though the successive changes from v. inter to spring. and from summer to autumn, specially conduee to the bright verdent appearance which peculiarly distinguishes the English landscape, yet these changes are sometimes irregular. and often very sudden.

It is all very pretty to sing about “ Charm- ir g May 9" and a ver Y charming month it generally is ; but, like many other “ charm- ing" things, not a little dangeroUs, to the young and old.

It used to be customary, and is still to a

great extent, to take medicine at this time of

the year; and it surely is a great blessing to have at hand a sole aml q/lctleious prevail/ire to any malady that may be lurking about the system at this critical period. This, then. is one of the numberless occasions on which Holloway/’5 Pills will be found useful. His PIT/ls and his ()z'nlmcnl have earned for him such an enviable reputation, that we have no hesitation in giving them the highest charac- ter as a safe and trustworthy preventive—or, when the complaint has set in, and prevent- ion comes toe late, as a speedy and certain cure.

This is a theme on which we could expati- ate at much greater length ; but we will satisfy ourselVes with merely noticing the heat of the dog-days, the danger of exposure to which ls considerably increased by the heavy rains to which the month of July is particularly liable, and pass on to say a few words about the autumn, which is another critical period in the onward roll of the year.

“ The fall," our Anmriean cousins term it, both poetieally, and with great prtnn'iety.—- For it is not only the time of the tall of the leaf, but it is the decadence of the year; he is growing old ; and it is a remarkable fact, that, whereas the spring is a critical time for most people, the fall is a. most dangerous season for the aged. This is so well known a circumstance (though perhaps too little dwelt upon) that it needs no comment.

But here again Holloway steps in, and his Pills, which we have noticed as a safe. re- medy for children, may be taken with secu- rity and certainty by elderly and inlirm per- sons, on whom a disordered stomach or liver would entail most serious, nay, per- chance, fatal consequences.
