Craft Unions

NEW YORK (AP)—The World Journal! Tribune Inc. has reached contract settlements with the last of its craft unions and plans to start publishing its

The Journal - American and The World - Telegram and The Sun, evening newspapers, were merged into the new enterprise.

The World Journal Tribune, which originally had scheduled publication to start April 25, reached settlements with the last of the nine craft unions Sat- urday — the 132nd day of the publication holdup.

Agreements were reached one by one Saturday with six unions —drivers, mailers, electricians. machinists, paperhandlers and photoengravers. The printers,

stereotypers and pressmen had |

settled earlier. MUST BE RATIFIED

The agreement with the ster- | eotypers is tentative and subject | to ratification at a membership meeting next Sunday.

Officers of the Newspaper cuild of New York, which has not reached a new settlement with the corporation, have said their members are ready to go to work without a contract, if necessary, and settle any fe-

‘maining differences later.

John Gaherin, president of the Publishers Association of New York City, of which the new cor- poration is a member. said after the last craft union settlement, “T see no reason why we cant’t make the 12th’ — the target date for publication. .
