Former Islander Dies In Calgary

The death of George S. Mur- phy, 71 occurred in Calgary, Al- berta, on September 16. A pro- fessional tailor, the late Mr. Murphy had resided in the Wes- tern ,Canadian city since 1911. In later years he was the pro- prietor of a popular gents fur- nishings establishment. .

Earlier this year he had at- tended a family reunion in Char- lottetown. This was his first visit to’ his native P.E,l. since his departure for the West al- most a half-century ago.

Survivors include one (laugh ter, Mrs. Henry Dann, Calgary; one brother, W. W. Murphy., Charlottetown; and three sis- ters, Mrs. Bert Ca-hill and Mrs. Annie Hughes, Summer-field, P. EL; and Mrs. Nellie Sullivan, Texas.

INVERNESS, N.S. (CP) — One of Cape Breton’s best known physicians, Dr. Frank MacLeod, died. here today at the age of 55.

Born in St, Ann’s, Dr. Mac- Leod received his medical de- gress from Dalhousie University and took post graduate work at the Royal Victoria Hospital ,in Montreal He began a surgical practice in Inverness and was one of the key figures behind development of the Inverness Memorial Hos- pital. At one time he was also deputy mayor and police com- missioner for the town.

College of Surgeons, Dr. Mac- Leod was granted a certificate In the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada in 1946. ‘ His wife is the former Margaret Putnam of Maitland, N.S. where Dr. MacLeod practiced briefly before his post graduate course in Montreal.

Survivors also include a son Donald, attending Dalhousie Uni- versity, and a daughter Mr. Ann Vogel, Halifax.

The funeral will be held'Friday afternoon from St. Matthew’s United Church in Inverness.
