Sclicitor-General would attend to all of the Government law when he came to office. This promise is altogether forgotten. The Minister of Justice and the Solicitor- General are doing nothing ot the kind. Asthe pledge is unfulfilled there need be no wonder that cases are given to Liberal lawyers to conduct. But while this may be fair par- tisanship is being carried to excess, or the- demand for spoils is leading the Adminis- tration a trifle too far, when in unsettled cases it deliberately changes its counsel, merely that one of the faithfel may get something out of the treasury. The other day, in the Superior Court at Quebec, Mr. de Guise, a young Liberal lawyer, moved that he be substituted as Government attorney for Mr. Lavers, who had been arguing the case so far. Chief Justice Casault granted the motion, but charac terized it as an insult to both bench and bar, adding that in this country ‘ politics spoil everything.” Sir Oliver, who manipulates matters of this nature, seems to be more anxious to feed his friends than to protect the interests of the people.

A provincial elec- tion may be nearer at hand than some of our comatose friends imegine, god they may shortly wake up and find themselves thrown unexpected and unprepared into a one-sided contest. Sin, —Reading your article on turnips as winter teed for cows, I might suggest a great improvement, viz: By carefully cuttingyoff tae crown the objectionable odor would be reduced to a minimum and the objectionable flavor in the butter wonld be done away with. The experiment is worth a trial. Store cattle would consume the waste. To get the finest gilt-edged butter, parenips and carrots with the best quality of hay (free from al] noxious weeds) are the best winter feed, with mangolds for spring. On the Jersey Isie parsnips are indispensable fur feed.

The improvement ip the quality of pork on the market to-day, nice clean-dressed bacon, bogs sold freely at 4 cents. Poor quality of hogs are not wanted at any price. The low prices of 3 and 34 cents has had a good effect, and I hope it will continue.

Turnips and mangolds are a va)uable feed for hogs. When fed carefully with grain and as the potato crop is short, no excuse need be made for not makiog good quality of pork.

Therefore, the nuns who are eminently religious persons and have taken certain vows, cannot, upon this condition, be permitted to become teachers of our public echvols, This is the reductio ad absurdum.
