Six officers serving with Military District No. 6 Units Oversea; are among those receiving promotion to higher rank according to lists re- leased from Ottawa recently.

Major MacDonald served with the Canadian Army from April 30th, 1928 being confirmed in the rank of Lieutenant on that date. He was recommended for and received the appointment of Captain in Novem- ber 1935 during which time he was connected with the 6th Signal Bat- talion. CCS.

Major MacDonald wag awarded the Canadian Efficiency Decoration in July i941. In the last war he en- listed with the R. A. F. in 1918 serv- ing in Canada until the end of the year.

Capt. G. P. Baker began his mili- tery career when he received his appointment as 2nd Lieutenant with the 5th Div. R.C.A.S. N.P.A.M. In February 1940. He was attached to the 1st Fortress Comlllny. R-U-A-S. C. C.A.S.F. in June of that year and transferred to Active Service in August.

Born August 1900 Ca t. Baker re- ceived his early educa ion in Yar- mouth Central School and Yar- mouth Academy later attending Bishop's College and McGill Univer- sity, Montreal.

Death 0f Former Island Engineer In Winnipeg

WINNIPEG. June 11 - (GP) - Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for William M. Macphall, 70, former assistant city engineer in charge of street construction in To- ronto. rfe died Tuesday. Born in Orwell, P. E. 1., Mr. Macphall was associated with the late Cecil B. Smith and William G. Chane in construction of the first electric power plant at Niagara Falls, 0nt., 42 years ago.

He was with the Toronto street construction department until 1907 when he came here. For the last three years he has supervised ground work at western Canada alr- porli for Cai-ter-Halis-Aldinger

Island Native Dies In West

Mr. Harry’ Burslelgh Moore, well known old-timer of tne district died at Innisiall, Alberta on Thursday. March 12th, after‘ brief illness, He had been a farmer 1n the district since 189d and was 6o years o1 age.

A native of Pownall, P. E. _1.,_ M1‘. Moore was married at Innlslail in 1902 to Miss Violet Margaret Dob- son, and they had made their home at Iniiisfall continuously since their marriage. Left to mourn his death as well as Mrs. Moore are one son
