What course they took it is yet impossible to tell. The mother was last seen in her carriage in hot pursuit after her young would-be nun and her was-to-be husband.— it is a mixed up affair and the “end isnot yet.”

National Division, Sons of Temperance, having by virtue of the power yested in him, granted a Charter under the seal of the said National Division, organising a Grand Division, under the name of the *Granp D1- vision of Prince Edward Island,” with full power to open Subordinate Divisions in the said Island. This is to give notice that the following is the Form of Appli- cation fora Charter to open a Division, and which must be signed by at Jeast eight persons, who must be men of good standing in the community, and should be di rected to the Grand Scribe, free of postage.

The undersigned inhabitants of believing the order of the Sons of Temperance to'be well calculated to extend the blessings of Total Absti- nence, and promote the general welfare of mankind, re- pectfully petition the Grand Division of Prince Edward! Island to grant them a Charter to open a new Division, to be called the Division, No. Sons of Temperance of the Island of Prince Edward, to be lo- cated in and under the jurisdiction of the said Grand Division.

We pledge ourselves individually and collectively, to be governed by the rules and usages of the said Grand Division, and also, by those of the National Di- vision.

Upon receiving the enclosed certificate I am directed by the Grand Worthy Patriarch to state, that as soon aa practicable, he will attend with the Grand Conductor, or will send a Deputy duly authorised, to open the Divi- sion.

As itis desirable that the principles of this truly noble and philanthrophie order should be diffused throughout the Island, it is to be hoped, that those per- sons who are in favour of Temperance would unite, 90 that Divisions may be established inevery settlement of the Colony. The leading principles ofthe Order are as fellows :—

1. A universe] Temperance reformation.

2. A Brotherhood, in Love, Purity and Fidelity.

3. The pecuniary relief of sick Brethren.

4. The encouragement of morality.

5. The diffusion of good will to all mankind,

Besides others equally exalted and ennobling.

The initiation fee to each Brother on opening Disi- ‘sion is twelve shillings, and which is retained in the | Division, and from this fund the expenses for Charter ‘&c. are paid.

GENTLEMEN ; ONOURED by a Requisition 80 numerously and respectably signed ag that which has this day beea presented to me, requesting that I would allow my name to be put in nomination as a Candidate at the ensuing Election for Charlottetown and Royalty, I hasten te comply with the wishes of my friends, thongh I assure them and the Electors generally, that the distinguished compliment was unlooked for and unmerited. Content with the humble sphere in which Providence has placed me, | have been always willing and ready to employ all the influence I possessed in advocating those broad and liberal principles which I believe to be calculated to develope the resources of this young Colony, and to secure to its inhabitants a wise, just and impartial ad- ministration of its Government. But | beg to assure you, gentlemen, I entertained on the present occasion, no ambition to go beyond that sphere, and occupy a position in the Legislature which could not fail to be more ably filled by another refiecting your views and opinions, yet I fee! that | should be wanting in respect to myself and to those who have been kind enough to honour me with their countenance and confidence, if I continued to decline their invitation,

My political principles, I believe, are known to many of you. Suffice it to say, that, if returned, I shall be found upon all occasions to vote for the general interests of the Colony, and for those of my constitutents parti- cularly ; and | feel confident you will have no reason to question my integrity and consistency. If not returned, I shall be fully satisfied to resume my present private position; but in either case, I will long remember with gratitude the manifestation of respect and .confidence with which I have been favored.
