With upwards of eighty dele- gates in attendance. the 23rd an- nual convention of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association got away to a splendid start yesterday at the Canadian National Hotel. Fol- lowing the opening ceremoniesand addresses of welcome, morning and afternoon business sessions were held. adjournment being made at 5 oclock to enable visiting dele- gates to enjoy a motor drive to points of interest. On return at 7.30 p.m. the convention banquet took place. a largely attended function. which was followed by an enjoyable dance.
STILL UNCONSCIOUS — Mrs. Hiram Bertram of Hunter River was in an unconscious condition in hospital last night. more than 36 hours after she was thrown from a wagon when the horse bolted Monday. She was believed to be suffering from a fractured skull. The animal suddenly bolted when frightened by a passhg bicyclist. The wagon. occupied by Mrs. Bertram and her daughter who were proceeding from Hunter River. about 14 miles from the city. to New Glasgow, struck the ditch. throwing the occupants heavily to the ground. Mrs. Ber- tram was rushed to a city hospital by a doctor who rendered first aid
after being summoned to the scene. The daughter escaped scr- ious injury.

There passed away June 29th at her home in Kingston P. E. I. Mrs. Fied Younker at the age of 74 years 10 months and six days. After an illne s of six and a half years Mrs. Younker was stricken with paralysis on the 7th of June 1931 and for the last three years was confined to bed. During all this time she maintained a cheerful spirit and was able to see and converse with her many friends.
