Tue P. E. Island Farmer has been amal- gamated with the Summerside Progress— the proprietor of the latter being the pur- chaser. This is an exceedingly good move. it would be well if some such amalgama- tion could be effected in Charlottetown. We have too many papers.

A youne fellow named Story perpetrated a most daring robbery at the St. Lawrence Hotel a few days ago. He walked off the street into a room on the third flat, stole therefrom a valuable pipe belonging to one of the boarders, and escaped without appre- hension. He will be dealt with as the law directs in a short time.

Ar the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court, this forenoon, Daniel Fraser, drunk and driving diserderly through the streets, was fined 83 and costs or 14 days; Colin Chis- holm, drunk and incapable, was fined the same; John Bolger, selling liquor without license, was fined $32 and costs. Me. J. H. Frereser’s new lecture is entitled “‘ Dead Shots at Living Follies.” The subject is a good one, and as it is to be given in the Athenzeum on Thursday even- ing next, at 8 o’clock, we ask for the lec- turer a full house. The admission fee, so as to bring it within the reach of all, is placed as low as five cents. This lecture was delivered for the first time at the open- ing of a-church in Lot 16, on the 21st ult. The Summerside Jowrnal says of it : ‘‘ The lecture on ‘ Dead Shots at Living Follies’ was an entirely new one, delivered for the first time, and one which we can safely say fully sustains the high reputation already acquired by Mr. Fletcher as a public lec- turer. It was listened to by a most appre- ciative audience, whose frequent and long- continued applause indicated that another ‘ dead shot’ had been successfully fired and another ‘ living folly’ thoroughly exposed ; while the merry, ringing peals of laughter significantly told that, seeking to impart sound instruction, the lecturer had not for- gotten to convey it in the most interesting and amusing manner.”
