For some months past, however, extensive em- barrassment in the Commercial world has been ex-

rienced, from the elfects of which this Island has not been wholly exempted, and the state of the markets for shipping has, for the present, much checked that branch of our Commercial enterprise.

From these circumstances it may reasonably be in- furrod that the increase of the Revenue may not be maintai in the current year, but the surplus on the past year will, I trust. be found adequate to meet any diminution,- if such should occur, until the this crisis, which are already subsiding. been wholly eﬂhced by the restoration of commercial: prosperity.

On Saturday, the 14th, there was an arrival lrom Arichat. the first of the season, and the earliest within our remembrance. In the year 1831, tliore were two arrivals on the 18th April, and these were then considered the first vessels that had ever been re rted at a eriod so early. The gulf is, we be ieve, quite ree of ice, and we may now expect frequent arrivals; and what is of more importance, those who have been gathering up produce during the winter will have a goodopportunity of shippin it. We shall soon have an opportunity 0 testing the advantages of the Reciprooit treaty. A vessel arrived from New Brunswic yesterday.
