Cheese Firm---butter Very Heavy in Tone.

TheMontreal Gazette, Tuesday, reports : Cheese had a steady feeling today aud the business at the wharf recorded fractionally better prices than were obtained last week, the ruiing price being 8c, as against 8}c a week ago. The offerings were 3,000 boxes, and they sold ata rangeof 8 jc to Sic. While tkere is nochange io the English market, there is afair demand. There is some speculation in tLe market as to the effect of the suspension of a leading firm on the British market. If the goods held by them are thrown upon the market suddenly it would, no doubt, jhave a depressing effect, but it is thought that as the bills drawn against them would be tor different dates, they would only be eold outhe maturing of these bille, and thus be gradually absorbed. Receipts were 10,882 boxes.
