'I'he Cliaiirman briefly stated the object of the meeting undcxplained the caiuseofthv-. w:ir,—tho origin and nature of the Patriotic Fund—and urged on the meeting their duty as British subjects, to aid in providing for the widows and orph-.ins of those who have fallen or may fall in the service ofour common country during the present war.

The young Ladies and Gentlemen who have so kindly volunteered their services to sing at these meetings deserve it praise, but ive are sure that any coinpliinents from us are quite superfluous, as tbc satisfaction they feel that in any way advancing so great and glorious a cause gives its own l'eWttl' .

Stark I-Inquire, the Inspector of Schools for this lslnnrl, last evening, delivered an instructive lecture, upon "' l'Iut‘c.\1'tox.” He entered upon the principles of his important subject, with much minute- ncss: discussed the systcin that had prevailed in Greece and China; and then showed what I-ldticution really was, in its moral, intellectual and physical tendencies. He also described the working and training of the .\'orin;il School system, and concluded, by suggesting certain iiupruvenicnts, necessary, to innkc the Free School system new in successful Ullt.'I'Rll.I~)n in this Island, the best in the world.
